- Comparison of sketchbooks -

I have always thought that people work in completely different ways within the design world, this weeks Sketch Innovation class proved me right.
We were all asked to bring in a sketchbook that we could talk about, the session consisted of being split into groups of four or five of us.

It was a really interesting experience as all of my group were from different pathways, two of them were from Graphic Communication and one was from Spacial and Interior Design.
It was intriguing to see how they work and their sketchbooks of choice.

The work above was one of the Graphic Communication students work which I really loved, this particular work was from her A-Levels. I asked her about her sketchbooks now and she said that she missed this kind of work where it was paper based so she can see it develop in front of her. At the moment her course doesnt allow the freedom that comes with a sketchbook, its all very digital based without a process, its all to the point and commercial.

Another Graphic Communication Designers work. He felt the same as the other girl, he misses his work being in sketchbooks. He said he didnt have the time to sit and draw in a book.
I found it really interesting that he brought a tiny sketchbook that was busy and vibrant  and then his Ipad of which had work on it but in a more clean cut way, as I would expect from a Graphic Designer.

This sketchbook was the work from the spacial and interior design student in which she used her sketchbook to write measurements, material reactions and strengths and ideas in. I found her work extremely interesting to look at as it completely contrasts with every other sketchbook I have looked at. It was all very ordered and seemed serious, like it was for a purpose.
